History on a Story Arc
Chapter 5 · Pathos

Revelation

How does the story end?

Abstract

Revelation tells the end of the plot in images. A city grows rich on a substitute, on securing the goal instead of reaching it, and the whole world trades with it. The fall comes from within: the system consumes what it was built to protect until it can no longer stand. The same fall releases those it consumed. Romans 9–11 told the end as history; Revelation shows its mechanism as an image, and no people or group is left as the one to blame.
